Clarinetist offers concert Oct. 26

English clarinetist Gareth Davis will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in Brechemin Auditorium. A dedicated performer of contemporary music, he will play Soft, by Franco Donatoni; Let me die before I wake… by Salvatore Sciarrino;, Solitude, by Joji Yuasa; Supplement, by Evan Johnson; Sequenza IXc, by Luciano Berio; God Bless the Child, by Eric Dolphy; and Tiodhlac II, by UW composer Joël-François Durand.

Since his debut at the age of 18 at London’s Wigmore Hall, Davis has gone on to play throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia. He has had pieces written for him by composers such as Salvatore Sciarrino, Jonathan Harvey, Helmut Lachenmann, Toshio Hosokawa, Gavin Bryars and Misato Mochizuki, while at the same time working with improvising jazz musicians Jon Balke and Terje Rypdal, and electronic artists including Robin Rimbaud, Christian Fennesz and Mika Vainio.

Davis has performed at many festivals and records with the Stradivarius and Sargasso labels. He has performed both contemporary and traditional repertoire on modern and period instruments and on folk instruments.
