Russian virtuoso to kick off President’s Piano Series

The President’s Piano Series, presented by the UW World Series, will be launched with a performance by Yevgeny Sudbin at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Meany Hall.

Renowned for his wide-ranging command of repertoire from Scarlatti to Scriabin, this young Russian virtuoso has been hailed as potentially one of the great pianists of the 21st century. His 2005 debut compact disc of Scarlatti sonatas for BIS Records met with great critical acclaim, with International Piano magazine citing his “great sensitivity, imagination, and unusual insight.”

Sudbin will play selections by Haydn, Medtner Scriabin and Chopin. Ticket holders are invited to learn more about this artist and the program at a free pre-show lecture 45 minutes before curtain in the Meany Hall west lobby.

Born in St Petersburg in 1980, Yevgeny Sudbin displayed exceptional musical talents from an early age and in 1987 entered the specialist music school of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. He continued his studies in Berlin in 1990, then moved to London, where he has lived since 1997.

Tickets for the performance will be $34, $31 for subscribers, and $20 for students. Call 206-543-4880 or visit online at http://www.uwworldseries.org.
