Chinese sport paper-cutting exhibit comes to Suzzallo

A traveling exhibit of paper art from the People’s Republic of China titled Cutting Ribbons for the Olympics: Exhibition of Chinese Folk Sport Paper Cuts will be on display in Room 102 of Suzzallo Library today through Aug. 3.

An opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting for the exhibit will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. today in the same room. The campus community is welcome to attend. Diane Adachi, special assistant to the Provost for International Relations, will be the moderator, and there will be comments by Betsy Wilson, director of UW Libraries; Zhijia Shen, who was instrumental in bringing the exhibit to the UW; Anand Yang, director of the Jackson School of International Studies; and Counselor Sun of China’s Consul on Culture.

Light refreshments will follow the reception at 4 p.m. This collection of paper cuts, a traditional folk art, was created by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China to provide a Chinese cultural touch to the celebration of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
