Coming up

Dr. Paul Ramsey, UW Medicine’s CEO, UW executive vice president for medical affairs, and dean of the UW School of Medicine, will deliver his annual address at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in Hogness Auditorium at the Health Sciences Building. Ramsey will describe UW Medicine’s achievements in the past year and review the challenges and opportunities for educational, research, and patient care programs in 2009. His topic is “Maintaining Focus in Challenging Times.”

All faculty, staff, students, and trainees are invited to attend. A replay of the talk will be available on the UW Medicine Web site starting Wednesday, Jan. 28.



“I-1000: The Washington Death with Dignity Act” is the title for a presentation at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28, in UW Medical Center’s Plaza Café conference rooms A and B, part of the Department of Bioethics & Humanities series. The speakers are Dr. Patricia Kuszler, a health care law expert from the UW School of Law, and Steve Milam, affiliate assistant professor of bioethics and humanities. The new act will become effective in March. The speakers will discuss its provisions and will also talk about experience in Oregon with that state’s similar law. The program is open to everyone.
