ARCHITECTURE LEADER: Daniel S. Friedman, dean of the College of Built Environments, has been elected 2009 vice president/president-elect of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. He will officially join the ACSA board of directors July 1, and become president in 2010.


The organization represents 220 members, including 134 accredited architecture programs in the U.S., Canada and abroad. These institutions represent about 5,000 faculty members and 24,000 students plus 500 supporting members such as architecture firms and product associations.


LEADING LIBRARY: The University Libraries once again ranks among the top 15 North American research libraries. In the most recent ranking compiled by the Association of Research Libraries, which is for 2006-2007, UW received an overall ranking of 14 — out of 113 academic research libraries. When only U.S. public universities are considered, the rank is 7. The UW Libraries’ rank has been between 13 and 15 for the past five years.
