UW World Series offers dance package at bargain price

The World Series at Meany is offering a package of three performances from its World Dance Series at the bargain price of $75, which is 40 percent off the regular price. Patrons can choose from a Thursday or a Friday package including three dance troupes:

Richard Alston Dance Company, Jan. 21 or 22

Great Britain’s master of contemporary dance has been choreographing stunning dance works for more than 40 years. For their UW World Series appearance, the Richard Alston Dance Company performs a program of dances new and old, including the Seattle premiere of Shuffle It Right, a new piece set to the music of Hoagy Carmichael.

Shantala Shivalingappa, Feb. 11 or 12

Shivalingappa is a solo dancer who is trained in both Western and Indian classical dance styles. She performs an evening of “kuchipudi” — an evocative, expressive form of storytelling-through-dance that is more than 2,000 years old. She dances to live accompaniment provided by a troupe of Indian musicians.

Trey McIntyre Project, March 18 or 19

This young American troupe is making waves across the contemporary dance world. Since the company’s first appearance at the Vail International Dance Festival just three years ago, audiences have loved McIntyre’s audacious, inventive and surprising approach to contemporary dance.

The Winter Dance Sampler may be purchased by phone or in person (no online orders) at the UW Arts Ticket Office, 4001 University Way NE, 206-543-4880. It is available until Thursday, Jan. 21, and subject to availability. Tickets may not be exchanged or refunded.
