The Board of Regents will hold a regular meeting on Thursday, March 18, at UW Tacoma.
Notice of Possible Rule Making: Preproposal Statement of Inquiry (per RCW 34.05.310)
Subject of Possible Rule Making: Chapter 478-136 WAC, “Use of University of Washington Facilities,” and WAC 478-137-030, “Administrative Authority.”
Statutes Authorizing the University to Adopt Rules on This Subject: RCW 28B.20.130.
Reasons Why Rules on This Subject May Be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: The proposed amendments to Chapter 478-136 WAC establish a separate Use of University Facilities Committee for each of the UW’s three campuses. Amendments also include newly delegated authority from the President to the Chancellors to appoint a chair for the UW Bothell and UW Tacoma committees (amending the previous secretary of the committee role), and add liaison responsibilities between the three committee chairs. In addition, the chapter will be reorganized for clarity and updated where necessary to reflect current practice. The proposed housekeeping amendments to WAC 478-137-030 clarify meaning without changing its effect.
Identify Other Federal and State Agencies That Regulate This Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule With These Agencies: Because the proposed housekeeping amendments to WAC 478-137-030 are part of Chapter 478-137 WAC, “Use of Joint University of Washington, Bothell, and Cascadia Community College Facilities,” the UW will coordinate with Cascadia Community College for possible amendment of their WAC rules, Chapter 132Z-141 WAC, “Use of Joint Cascadia Community College and University of Washington, Bothell, Facilities.”
Process for Developing New Rule: Agency study.

Reasons Why Rules on This Subject May Be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: The University of Washington proposes amending Chapter 478-276 WAC to better conform to the Attorney General’s public disclosure model rules; to modify business hours as provided in Chapter 428, Laws of 2009; and to reflect current business practices.

Alcohol and drug abuse research grants
The Alcohol & Drug Abuse Institute invites applications from University of Washington researchers for its Small Grants research awards. Proposed research must be in alcohol or drug abuse-related fields. The maximum amount considered for funding is $30,000 for faculty and research scientists. The funding limit for pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows is $20,000.
The next application deadline is 5 p.m., March 15. Questions concerning the application process or suitability of a potential project should be directed to the Institute at 206-543-0937.
