Beethoven piano sonata cycles is subject of lecture-recital
School of Music alumnus Dainius Vaicekonis will present a lecture-recital on Beethoven’s piano sonata cycles at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 14 in Brechemin Auditorium.
Vaicekonis discusses Beethoven’s approach to the idea of an opus as a unified set of several organically coherent works revealing the connections that exist between the sonatas considered as a repertoire. Attendees will hear two opuses (op. 10 and op. 31) of three sonatas performed in a manner of one work to better apprehend the organization of formal design and stylistic congruence that bind individual sonatas into cohesive sets.
Vaicekonis is affiliated with the music departments of the Shoreline Community College and Western Washington University, as well as Music Works Northwest. He enjoys an active performance career as soloist and collaborative artist. The lecture-recital is free and open to the public.
