Contemporary Group, pianist Alan Chow to perform Nov. 4
School of Music students will perform new music selections in the Contemporary Group concert and pianist Alan Chow will give a guest recital, both on Thursday, Nov. 4, in different campus locations.
Among pieces to be performed by The Contemporary Group will be Piano Piece #4, by Frederic Rzewski; Scratchband, by John Adams; Integrales, by Edgard Varese; Enjamb, Infuse, Implode, by Anthony Cheung; and Folk Songs by Luciano Berio.
Vu Nguyen and Jonathan Pasternack will conduct. Nguyen is graduate teaching assistant for the wind band program, and Pasternack is director of orchestral activities for the School of Music this year.
The Contemporary Group will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in the Meany Studio Theater. Tickets are $10. For more information, call the UW Arts Ticket Office at 206-543-4880.
Pianist Chow directs the piano program at Northwest University. He will perform works by Haydn, Chopin and Liszt, including the Chopin Sonata in B Flat Minor and the Liszt Dante Sonata.
A Steinway artist, Chow has performed in recital and in concert with orchestra from coast to coast in more than 40 states. His recitals have brought him to the major music centers in New York, Boston, Los Angenes, Chigago, Washington, D.C., and Seattle. He regularly tours Asia with performances in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and Singapore.
Chow will perform a guest artist recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in Brechemin Auditorium. Tickets are $10, cash or check at the door. For more information, call 206-685-8384.
Chow also will lead a master class with UW piano students at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in Brechemin Auditorium. The class is free and open to the public.
