Arts Roundup: Music, theater, art, lectures — and ‘Short Takes on Plastics’
The Burke Museum offers “Short Takes on Plastics” Feb. 5. at the Neptune Theater, related to the exhibit “Plastics Unwrapped.”
The Undergraduate Theater Society continues its run of Lanford Wilson’s drama “Burn This,” the Kirkland Choral Society pays a visit and The School of Art has lectures and exhibits aplenty in this full week in UW arts.
Also, the Burke Museum limits science-types to six minutes each as they discuss plastics at the Neptune Theater — think of it as speed dating, natural history-style.
“An Evening of Endingness,” 7 p.m., Feb. 1. In conjunction with the exhibition “Now Here is also Nowhere: Part II,” the Henry Art Gallery presents a performance of Pablo Helguera’s composition for chamber orchestra. Free with admission. Learn more and RSVP online.

Guitar Ensemble: “La Guitare Française,” 7:30 p.m., Feb. 1. Students of Michael Partington perform a program of French music arranged for guitars in duo, trio, quartet and with flute. The concert includes music by Debussy, Poulenc, Faure, Couperin, Ibert and Grau and features guest flutists Elizabeth Jolly and Kathleen Shin. In Brechemin Auditorium. Kirkland Choral Society, 7:30 p.m., Feb. 2. Works by Dvorak and Bernstein will be featured when the choral group teams with Philharmonia Northwest to present “Songs of Heaven.” Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for students and seniors and may be purchased at tickets@kirklandchoralsociety.org or by phoning 425-296-0612.
Play: “Burn This,” 7:30 p.m., through Feb. 3. The Undergraduate Theater Society presents a drama by Lanford Wilson, directed by Mary Hubert, in the Hutchinson Hall Cabaret Theater. The New York Times called the play, “the late Lanford Wilson’s love letter to bad boys and the women (and men) who crush on them.” Learn more on Facebook. Tickets $5-$10.
“Short Takes on Plastics,” 7 p.m., Feb. 5. The Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture presents an event at the Neptune Theater related to the exhibit “Plastics Unwrapped.” An evening of fast-paced talks with 10 engineers, historians, archaeologists, chemists, activists, and oceanographers who are limited to six minutes and 20 slides each. Tickets are $5 at the door or available online.
The School of Art has several events this week.
Alumni lectures: Shio Kusaka, Rock Huschka, Jan. 31. Kusaka will speak at

Critical Issues in Contemporary Art lectures: Tue Greenfort, 7 p.m., Jan. 31; Isla Leaver-Yap, 7 p.m., Feb. 7. The third and fourth lectures in this ongoing free series, in the Henry Art Gallery Auditorium.
Student art exhibits. Works by undergraduates through Feb. 2 in the Sand Point Gallery and by 3D4M (3 Dimensional Forum) students through Feb. 25 in the Ceramic and Metal Arts Building.
Scholarships for Scholars XIII, 6-8:30 p.m., Feb. 5. The 13th annual open house and fundraiser supporting 3D4M graduate students, including student exhibitions, a silent auction and a raffle featuring faculty work.
