With the new year come new events to entertain and inspire you. From the School of Music’s Littlefield Organ concert to a piano performance by Garrick Ohlsson presented by the UW World Series, discover what’s happening this coming week in the arts.
VIVA! Exhibit: “Celebrating Latino/a Art, Activism & Life”
Jan. 6-April 18 | First Floor Gallery, School of Social Work
The exhibit highlights paintings by Alfredo Arreguín, Arturo Artorez, Tatiana Garmendia and Blanca Santander; mixed media work by Michelle de la Vega; and photographs by Daniel Carrillo, Almendra Sandoval and Alejandro Tomás. More info.
Lecture: Elisabeth Higgins O’Conner

Littlefield Organ Series: Eunyoung Kim
3 p.m., Jan.12 | Walker-Ames Room, Kane Hall
Visiting scholar Eunyoung Kim, a faculty member at Korea Baptist Theological University/Seminary and organist at Daehung Baptist Church in Daejeon, South Korea, performs a recital on the UW’s Littlefield Organ. More info.
Faculty Recital: Michael Partington, “Conversations with the Guitar”
7:30 p.m., Jan. 12 | Brechemin Auditorium
Partington collaborates with fellow faculty members Michael Brockman, Valerie Muzzolini Gordon and Donna Shin in music by Chiel Meijering, Alan Hovhaness, and Michael Fiday. His program also features new music for solo guitar by Stephen Goss and Bryan Johanson. More info.
Faculty Recital: Melia Watras, Viola
7:30 p.m., Jan. 13 | Meany Theater
Watras returns to the Meany stage for a program of new works, joined by Pacific Northwest Ballet concertmaster Michael Jinsoo Lim. Also on the program are world premieres by composers Richard Karpen and Frances White, as well as new pieces written by the performers themselves. The musicians will be joined onstage by Seattle-based theater director Sheila Daniels, who will lend her vocal talents to the performance. More info.

Jan. 14 | Jacob Lawrence Gallery
This juried show is open to submissions from all students in School of Art programs and features a variety of media on display. Alison Milliman, alumna and founder of MadArt, is the guest juror. More info.
Garrick Ohlsson

Presented by the UW World Series, pianist Garrick Ohlsson returns to the Meany stage for a performance which ranges over the entire piano literature including the works of Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert, as well as the Romantic repertoire. More info.
