Lost and Found Films: ‘Art and Architecture Pavilion’
Welcome back to 1962 at the University of Washington, where there is an art exhibit taking place on the lawn for this weeks Lost and Found Film, titled Art and Architecture Pavilion.
Art works and sculptures are displayed under a futuristic, Jetsons-like tent structure in this silent, 2-minute color film. We get long looks at the rows of art as folks stroll along taking it in. Then later, we see a man standing alongside a frighteningly huge, mottled bust that probably isnt made entirely of cheese, but sure looks like it.
This is one of hundreds of reels of film that Hannah Palin, film archives specialist with UW Libraries Special Collections, is trying to identify for archiving purposes. She has film clips from the late 1930s through the 1970s — some from research projects, some from campus events and some from commercial films or original productions.
In the case of Art and Architecture Pavilion, Palin wonders, was this exhibit connected to the Worlds Fair in 1962? Does anyone recognize any of the artwork seen in the clip? Does anyone know anything about the architect of the pavilion? Was this a student exhibition? And we add, whats up with the huge head?
