Arts Roundup: Iphigenia and Other Daughters, The Kreutzer Sonata – and Music of Today

This week, the University of Washington launches its philanthropic campaign with a live multimedia experience. The School of Drama revisits a classical tale, and faculty performances are front and center at the School of Music. Swing by the Henry for an exhibition that explores the history of transgender communities in the Pacific Northwest.

Iphigenia and Other Daughters

The School of Drama opens its 2016-2017 season with modern retelling of the ancient Greek tale of Iphigenia. This three-play cycle follows the ill-fated children of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon as they become players in the family tragedy — and victims of it. More info.

Frequency, a new chamber ensemble comprised of UW faculty members Sæunn Thorsteinsdóttir (cello) and Melia Watras (viola), and Pacific Northwest Ballet concertmaster Michael Jinsoo Lim (violin), presents a program of interconnected works by Beethoven, Janáček and Watras. More info.

Music of Today: Eighty and Ninety:

Celebrate the eightieth and ninetieth birthdays of two faculty all-stars with a performance of their original compositions. The professors emeriti revisit their creative work from the past half-century while demonstrating the improvisational talents that made them both central figures in the School of Music. More info.

MOTHA and Chris E. Vargas present: Trans Hirstory in 99 Objects

99 Objects, the second iteration of an ongoing series from the Museum of Transgender Hirstory & Art (MOTHA), features archival materials and works by contemporary artists that narrate the history of transgender communities. The exhibition at the Henry, organized by MOTHA executive director Chris E. Vargas, focuses on lives and experiences specific to Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. More info.
