Karin Bumbaco has been the deputy state climatologist in the Office of the Washington State Climatologist, now part of the UW Climate Impacts Group, since 2008. She is the primary point of contact for topics including Washington state’s climate, data access and the office’s outreach activities.
Bumbaco’s research focuses on Washington state weather and climate, and includes projects on historical heat events and recent droughts. Recently, Karin has led the strategic planning effort for the Office of the Washington State Climatologist. Karin has a bachelor’s degree in meteorology from Penn State University, and a master’s degree in atmospheric science from Ohio State University.
