University of Washington Health Sciences Center presents Martin Luther King Day observance
The University of Washington Health Sciences Center will present its annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 15, in the lobby of the Warren G. Magnuson Health Sciences Center. The observance, one of the longest-established in the Seattle area, will feature the theme, “Educating the Next Generation: the Dream Continues.” The Distinguished Community Service Award will be presented to U.S. Representative Jim McDermott. Entertainment will be presented by the Eckstein Middle School Senior Jazz Band, Capoeira Angola of the Seattle Parks & Recreation Art Corps and Bailadores de Bronce, a Mexican folkloric dance group. Artworks by young students will be on display.
The free program is open to the public.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Alonzo Plough, director of the Department of Public Health – Seattle & King County and associate professor in the UW School of Public Health and Community Medicine. E. Roberto Orellana, research assistant in the Innovative Programs Research Group in the UW School of Social Work and enrolled in the MSW/MPH dual degree program, will be the student speaker.
