“Walk for Life” marks start of Suicide Prevention Week, May 2-8
A “Walk for Life” will mark the beginning of Suicide Prevention Week, which will be observed May 2 to 8. Suicide Prevention Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of suicide, which takes the lives of 30,000 Americans every year.
The third annual walk will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at the Center for Wooden Boats at the south end of Lake Union. The walk is co-sponsored by Crisis Clinic of Seattle/King County and the Youth Suicide Prevention Program, a collaborative effort of the UW School of Nursing and the state Department of Health.
To symbolize walking in another’s footprints, participants are asked to bring a pair of new shoes, which they will carry in memory of those who died. Following the walk, the shoes will be donated to a shelter for homeless families.
