Twelve students affiliated with the University of Washington’s Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) and Genome Sciences Department participated in the 2011 Emerging Researchers National Conference in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) held February 24-26, 2011, at the Washington Hilton Hotel, in Washington, D.C.
The national conference was attended by undergraduate and graduate students who participate in programs funded by the National Science Foundation Division of Human Resource Development. Students received the opportunity to enhance their science communication skills and learn how to prepare for science careers in a global workforce. Exhibitors included representatives from academic, government, business, and the non-profit sector with information about graduate school admissions, fellowships, summer research opportunities, professional development activities, and employment opportunities.
Students were chosen to present their research at the poster and oral sessions through a national selection process.
