Over 100 alumni of color and friends of diversity gathered to celebrate UW homecoming with the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity at The Weekend, Oct. 29. Guests enjoyed tailgate festivities in The Zone before cheering on the Huskies to an exciting 42-31 Pac-12 victory over Arizona.
OMA&D’s pre-game tailgate tent featured food, beverages, and the opportunity to mingle with other alumni and friends of all ages. Raffles were held throughout the evening and items included gift certificates to area restaurants and the UW Bookstore, as well as an autographed football by Husky legends Greg Lewis and Sonny Sixkiller. Both Lewis and Sixkiller visited and took photos with fans, while assisting with the raffle. Dr. Sheila Edwards Lange, Vice President for Minority Affairs and Vice Provost for Diversity, offered welcome remarks.
After the tailgating festivities, alumni and friends sat together near the West end zone and watched the Huskies improve their record to 6-2 overall and clinch a bowl berth for the second-straight year. It was the second-to-last game played at historic Husky Stadium before a year-long renovation begins on Nov. 7.
The third annual The Weekend was sponsored by OMA&D, the UW Alumni Association, the School of Education and the Information School.
