University of Washington Vice President for Minority Affairs and Vice Provost for Diversity Sheila Edwards Lange visited the Yakima Valley on April 11, to meet with the UW GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) and Talent Search programs.
Edwards Lange, along with U.S. Representative Doc Hastings, toured the Toppenish High School STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) classes that UW GEAR UP helped establish. They also met with the Toppenish team that won a regional robotic competition and will compete in the national championship this week in Anaheim, Calif.
In addition to her visit at Toppenish, Edwards Lange met with local school superintendents and community members.
