Educational Talent Search students from the Toppenish High School Kamiakin Indian Club traveled to Seattle in April to attend the University of Washington 2013 Tribal Leadership Summit and First Nations Pow-Wow. The students themselves established the goal that they would raise enough funds in order to attend the UW events and they succeeded. Led by Patricia Whitefoot, Director of Indian Education for Toppenish School District and hosted by UW ETS, the students spent the weekend at the UW. In addition to the Summit and Pow-Wow, Kamiakin Indian Club students experienced a campus tour, and a student panel presentation given by UW student and former Miss Yakama Nation, Shanoa Pinkham; they also ventured through Pike Place Market and dined together in Seattle’s International District.
