Former users of the OMA&D Instructional Center (IC), as well as current and former staff members, came together to reminisce during a special alumni reunion mixer held at the Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center, Oct. 23.
The reunion was the first of its kind for alumni and friends that have either been associated with or benefited from IC services. The center is often referred to as a home-away-from-home for students.
The mixer featured remarks from Sheila Edwards Lange, vice president for minority affairs and vice provost for diversity, as well as IC Director Therese Mar and IC alumni Roy Diaz, Mercy Laurino and the honorable Ricardo Martinez.
Since 1970, the IC has provided instructional support and tutoring services to thousands of underrepresented minority, low-income and first-generation college students affiliated with OMA&D programs. The center employs a staff of full-time instructors and features a large group of student-tutors who provide peer-to-peer mentorship as well.
