When the 2014 UW Homecoming Court was announced on W Day, Oct. 24, OMA&D saw some familiar faces.
Three of the six students recognized – Kainen Bell, Taylor Boyd and Bailey Warrior – serve as ambassadors for OMA&D’s Recruitment and Outreach team which develops and executes programs to prepare underrepresented minority middle and high school students for the college applications process.
Warrior, a senior from Federal Way, received top honors with the distinction of Homecoming Queen and the 2014 UWAA Homecoming Scholarship. She is majoring in psychology and Spanish. Bell, a senior from Tacoma, is majoring in business administration and social welfare. Boyd, a junior from Sammamish, is a neurobiology major.
Rounding out the court were Homecoming King Bryce Ellis, a senior from Seattle majoring in communication and law, societies and justice; Chelsa Ayers, a senior from Spokane majoring in political science and gender, women and sexuality studies; and Karen Harris, an audiology doctoral student from Bellingham.
The 2014 Homecoming Court was officially recognized during the Husky football game versus Arizona State, Oct. 25. The scholarship competition is open to sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students. Finalists were selected and interviewed by a committee of representatives from the UW campus and community.
