Prominent contemporary artist and UW Professor Emeritus Marvin Oliver passed away on July 17, at the age of 73.
Over his 40-year career, Oliver became one of the Northwest’s most renowned sculptors and printmakers. He was a professor in the University’s Department of American Indian Studies and was awarded the 2019 Charles E. Odegaard Award for his exceptional leadership as a mentor and educator. He earned his MFA at the UW in 1973 and is the founder of Raven’s Feast, the University’s annual graduation ceremony for American Indian and Alaska Native students. Oliver will be mourned and missed by our OMA&D community and by everyone who had the good fortune to know him. Our deepest condolences to the Oliver family for their profound loss.
