James Dorsey, executive director of Washington MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement), was elected president of MESA USA at the 2016 Annual MESA National Engineering Design Competition in Ogden, Utah.
The two-year appointment began July 1 and in the role, Dorsey will represent the 11 member states (Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah and Washington).
Washington MESA, housed within the UW Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity, builds pathways to college and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) for K-community college students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields (African Americans, American Indian/Alaska Natives, Latino/as, Pacific Islanders and women).
