Faculty, staff, and students gathered to celebrate an open house for the Center for Experiential Learning and Diversity (EXPD) and First-Year Programs in Mary Gates Hall, Nov. 8.
Both units have transitioned to newly renovated suites, with EXPD now in Suite 171 and First-Year Programs in Suite 120. The open house began in EXPD with refreshments and welcome remarks from Sheila Edwards Lange, Vice President for Minority Affairs and Vice Provost for Diversity; Eric Godfrey, Vice Provost for Student Life; and Ed Taylor, Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Academic Affairs. Guests were also treated to violin music by the brother-sister duo of Audrey and Bryan Djunaedi, both current UW students. First-Year Programs hosted the dessert portion of the event.
EXPD is comprised of nine programs that help extend student learning beyond the classroom through community engagement, research, scholarships, and diversity, including the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity’s Early Identification Program and Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. Also housed in EXPD are the following Undergraduate Academic Affairs (UAA) units: Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center, Global Opportunities, Jumpstart, Mary Gates Endowment for Students, Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards, Pipeline Project, and Undergraduate Research Programs.
UAA’s First-Year Programs assists new freshmen, transfers, and their families throughout their first year of enrollment by enriching their relationship with the UW community.
