Advising and counseling resources that help students prepare for STEM majors are available through a variety of OMA&D programs.
Preparing for the UW
Math Science Upward Bound helps low-income and first-generation students from Chief Sealth, Cleveland and Franklin High Schools in Seattle excel in school, get accepted to college and STEM majors, and graduate with STEM degrees. Services include academic advising and tutoring.
MSUB
RISE UP GEAR UP offers enrichment activities, instructional support, tutoring, SAT preparation, STEM career-related field trips and visits to college campuses for middle and high school students in Yakima, Skagit and Klickitat counties.
RISE UP GEAR UP
Washington MESA provides K-12 and community college students throughout the state with academic planning, SAT/PSAT preparation, study skills training, and career and college exploration.
For Current UW Students
OMA&D Academic Counseling Services (ACS) consists of five outstanding, holistic advising programs:
- College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP)
- Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)
- TRIO Student Support Services and TRIO SSS -STEM (SSS/STEM)
- UW Champions
Each of these program’s advisers help students explore majors, select classes, connect with academic support resources and develop career goals. They also assist students with financial aid and housing issues, as well as support students in their pursuit of opportunities that enhance their Husky Experience (e.g. study abroad, scholarships, internships and fellowships). Additionally, TRIO Student Support Services-STEM provides affiliated students with instructional support to help them succeed and graduate from the UW.
