UW co-hosting Global Burden of Disease anniversary on September 26 and 27
The University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and The Lancet are co-hosting the 20th anniversary of the Global Burden of Disease study from September 26 to 27, 2017, at McCaw Hall in Seattle.
The morning of September 27 will feature several prominent speakers. UW President Ana Mari Cauce will begin the day by introducing keynote speaker Bill Gates. Mr. Gates will be followed by the President of the World Bank, Dr. Jim Kim. Other speakers over the two days include Dr. Peter Piot, the founding director of UNAIDS; Dr. Christopher Murray and Alan Lopez, co-founders of the Global Burden of Disease; and Richard Horton, Editor of The Lancet.
Centered at the UW, the Global Burden of Disease is the world’s largest systematic, scientific effort to quantify the magnitude of health loss from all major diseases, injuries, and risk factors by age, sex and population. Its findings have helped to transform health care and health policy around the world.
Admission to both days of the anniversary celebration is free, although seating capacity is limited. Please visit the event website or registration page if you would like to learn more or to register to attend.
