Building disaster resilient communities

Temporary flood barrier in a flood-prone area of SeattleThe Population Health Initiative is incubating the University of Washington’s Center for Disaster Resilient Communities through the Center’s start-up and maturation phases.

The Center seeks to unite the full breadth and depth of the UW’s expertise in disaster science to support the development of resilient communities. It works closely with partners, including government agencies and community-based organizations, to create and implement transformational hazard and disaster science, build workforce capacity, inform equitable disaster risk reduction policy and practice and contribute to more resilient communities.

Current research projects and initiatives are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation.
