Protection of Human Research Subjects – NIH Requirement
Provides training in the protection of human research subjects including ethics, policies, regulations, and procedures.
Who is required to take this training?
Senior / key personnel who are listed in the grant application working on research funded by NIH.
Summary of the requirement
Before NIH funds can be awarded for research involving human subjects, applicants must submit documentation that all senior/key personnel who are listed in the grant application have received training in the protection of human subjects. Courses that satisfy this requirement:
- The CITI Program offers a 4 – 6 hour, free online course
- Other organizations such as Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) and Seattle Children’s offer in-person training for affiliated investigators
