Tips to Establish Phishing-resistant Multifactor Authentication for Research.gov

Research.gov users with Administrative or Financial Roles will be required to use phishing-resistant multifactor authentication methods (MFA) as of 10/27/2024. Impacted roles are mostly central office roles, however the “Proposed Post Doctoral Fellows” role is also impacted.

Tips for Establishing Phishing Resistant Multifactor Authentication:

If you have not already, we recommend setting up and using a Login.gov account which allows you to access multiple federal agency systems, including Research.gov, eRA Commons, and Grants.gov.

  • Method #1: Use Smartphone facial recognition, by adding Face or Touch to your Login.gov account.
  • Method 2: If you are unable to use smartphone facial recognition, reach out to your unit’s IT department and get a security key and add it to Login.gov.
