Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)

This is the name for the rules and regulations published in the Federal Register by the executive departments and agencies of the federal government. The CFR is divided into 50 titles that represent broad areas subject to federal regulations. For example, title 45 is for rules and regulations of the federal Department of Health and Human Services. The Common Rule for human subjects research is part 46 of this title – hence its citation is 45 CFR 46.
