This is an alternative method of obtaining and documenting consent, when a researcher occasionally and unexpectedly encounters a non-English-speaking subject in a study for which no consent form in the subject’s language has been prepared and there is insufficient time and opportunity to obtain an appropriate written translation of the IRB-approved English version consent form.
