Managing Laboratory Chemicals – Online
This online course is required for all UW faculty, staff, and students who work in laboratories where hazardous chemicals are present. The class covers chemical hazards, protective measures, chemical storage, safety data sheets, hazardous waste disposal, and chemical spill prevention and response in laboratories. The class includes the unique hazards and specific emergency response procedures for work with hydrofluoric acid. The class partially fulfills federal and state chemical safety and hazardous waste training requirements and must be supplemented with laboratory-specific training on chemical hazards and waste management.

Summary of the requirement
Training must be given at the time of initial assignment and for new exposures. Training includes chemical physical and health hazards, how to recognize a release, personal protective equipment, work practices, emergency procedures, etc. Example MSDS/SDSs are used to emphasize training points.
