These instructions are for incoming visiting exchange students from partner universities. For information about exchanges for current UW students, please visit our UW Study Abroad Exchanges page.
Please see the steps and screenshots below to create an account and start an application. There is also a list of application tips and recommendations at the bottom.
Create an account
- When you are officially nominated by your home university, you’ll receive an email with a link to an exchange application. Click on the link in the email and you will be directed to an application. If there is no link in the email, your nomination wasn’t correctly submitted. Please reach out to uwexchanges@uw.edu if this is the case.
- You should see the name of your home university in parentheses at the top of the application. Underneath the photo, you’ll see 7 different tabs that you can click through to see further information: Overview, Location, Academics, Finances, Housing, Visas, and Application. Each tab has good information that you can read through before applying, or come back to later to read in further detail.
- Further down on the page, you’ll see a list of dates/deadlines. One of these should match the term or terms for which you were nominated. Please keep in mind which term you’re nominated for, you’ll need this information to begin an application.
- If you’re ready to start an application, click on the purple Apply Now button under the row of tabs.
- You will then be led to a new page with a user login. As an exchange student, you are a new user (you’ve never before logged into our system), so please click on Create Account at the very bottom.
- To create your account, fill in the blanks with your personal information, using your home university email address. You should only have 1 option to choose for Partner Institution, it should be your home university. Create a password and click ‘register’.
- You should then be directed to select a term for your exchange. If you were nominated for multiple quarters, you should select the appropriate term (Two quarters A/W is for both autumn and winter quarters for example).
- You will then be directed to the application itself in the application platform, MyGlobal.
Start an application
- Once you’re in the application, you should see instructions and a checklist to complete. Click the purple Get Started button and complete the items in your checklist. See below for application tips and recommendations.
- You will not receive an email right when you submit your application. If your application has been completed correctly, you should see a blue box at the top of the page, similar to the one below and the checklist will show as fully completed. After the application deadline has passed, you’ll receive an email with next steps.
