Lunch with Coach Romar and Dean Taylor

Men’s basketball coach and former NBA player Lorenzo Romar bio is teaming up with UAA’s Vice Provost and Dean Ed Taylor to offer you an insider’s view of college ball. You may know Dean Taylor from around campus, but did you know he played basketball at Gonzaga? Take the opportunity to ask all you’ve ever wanted to know about the sport — how plays are picked; strategy for building a lineup; what it takes to have a winning record and more.

Tour the bells of Gerberding Hall

True or false? The heaviest bell in Gerberding’s Gordon Stuart Peek Foundation Memorial Bells weighs 680 pounds? Find out on this one-of-a-kind tour of Gerberding Hall’s bells — the only set of change ringing bells on the West Coast. You’ll meet the band of bell-ringing volunteers, visit the ringing room during practice, watch how the bells are rung and climb a ladder to the belfry to see the bells.

  • Available on a Friday evening, 8:15-9:15 p.m. Specific Friday to be mutually agreed upon by students and bell captain.

Go aboard the R/V Thomas G Thompson Research Vessel

The science lab takes to the sea aboard the R/V Thomas G Thompson. Owned by the Office of Naval Research and operated by the UW School of Oceanography, the vessel accommodates 36 scientists, 21 officers and complete crew. Find out what its like to be a scientist at sea. Visit the ship’s many labs – hydro, wet, bio-analytic and computer, the scientists’ berths, the mess hall and other accommodations.

  • Tour lasts about 60-90 minutes.
  • Tour is available when ship is in port, May 31-June 15, Monday-Friday.
  • The ship docks close to campus, near Aqua Verde.
  • Visitors need to wear sensible, closed-toed shoes. It’s recommended that visitors wear clothes that they wouldn’t be too upset about getting dirty. It’s a clean ship, but it’s also a working ship and you might bump into something a little dirty.
