Reporting to the University

In accordance with Title VI, the University of Washington is committed to providing ways for all community members to report discrimination and harassment based on race, color, or national origin. This includes reports of discrimination or harassment based on actual or perceived shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics, such as students of Jewish, Palestinian, Muslim, Arab and South Asian descent or citizenship or residency in a country with a dominant religion or distinct religious identity, or their association with this national origin or ancestry.

UW staff, faculty, students, and/or members of the public who have been subjected to or impacted by such conduct are encouraged to report such concerns as follows:

Shared Ancestry Reporting

Those with questions, concerns, or reports relating to shared ancestry, such as antisemitism and Islamophobia, should send an email with information about the concerns, including a brief explanation of the concern and any details.

Response to Reports

When a report is received through any of these reporting processes, University personnel will:

  • Review the details of the situation and assess for immediate safety concerns.
  • Identify what options may be available or necessary to respond to a report.
  • Contact the person who reported or was impacted (if disclosed) to provide information on resolution options, supportive measures, and additional available resources.
  • Assess whether a hostile environment may have been created for the individual who reported or for others and, if so, assess possible remedies.

The University encourages reports to be submitted as soon as possible. Making a report does not automatically initiate an investigation or require an impacted individual to respond to an outreach from the assigned University office or personnel. The University reserves the right to address any report, regardless of when it is made, based on concern for the safety or well-being of the University community.
