6 high notes for Danny Shelton in 2014
Husky senior nose tackle Danny Shelton had a busy year in 2014. Both on and off the field, dedication to his academic studies and leadership on the football field reflect this Husky’s passion and drive.
These standout accomplishments should buoy him for the Cactus Bowl on January 2 where he and the Dawgs face the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
- Named to the Academic All-America first team: Shelton, with his 3.54 grade-point average, was the first Husky in 23 years to earn the honor since Steve Emtman in 1991.
- Put education into practice: An anthropology major, his fall internship at the Burke Museum contextualized his studies.
- Distinguished with the Guy Flaherty Award: Shelton was the 107th player to be recognized as an inspirational player with Husky football’s most prestigious team award.
- Tested his teaching chops: Guided 23 freshmen through their First-year Interest Group in fall quarter, gaining experience that may help him achieve his dream of being a teacher.
- Enters the postseason sharing the national lead in fumble recoveries: With four fumble recoveries, Shelton’s defensive skills have earned him high marks from teammates and football experts alike.
- Conducted graduate-level research in French Polynesia: His second trip to Tahiti with UW’s International Programs and Exchanges developed his research skills and prepared him for potential graduate school applications.
