May 18, 2004

Agenda

  • Enrollment Management
  • A&S Allocations Summary
  • Review Recommendations and Comments

Enrollment Management

  • Improve access to classes
  • Ensure funds are available for sufficient staff
  • Enrollment projections for critical gateway courses
  • Adjust projections based upon the size of the incoming class
  • Assignment of classes to classrooms - effective utilization of classrooms
  • These are temporary funds, need permanent funds to fix
  • If necessary open freshman (& possibly sophomore) only courses in Autumn & Winter quarters.
    - Consider limiting the lower level courses that juniors and seniors can take to fulfill UW General Education requirements?

A&S Allocations Summary

  • Breakdown of permanent and temporary TA funds broken down by dept.
  • Snapshot of how we are staffing undergraduate courses
  • Allocation of additional temporary funds to high demand courses to afford greater course access for gateway courses and some upper division courses.

Review Recommendations & Comments

  • #1 Approval Process for Multiple Majors / Degrees
    - Course plan completes majors within 210 or degrees within 240
    - Petition process if plan requires additional credits.

  • #2 - Approval to change majors after 135 credits
    - Specific departments could set a lower limit
    - Maintain completion of major within 210 credits.

  • #3 - Create "satisfactory progress credit total" that excludes certain credits
    - Develop consistent rationale for exclusion of certain credits from Academic Progress
    - Needs More discussion
    - Include FIGs and Individual Study?

  • #4 - Electronic process to monitor progress to degree
    - Leave as is to put out
    - Lists provided consistently each year

  • #5 - Improve Advising Resources
A - needs more discussion, should this be a credit class?
    B - ok as is
C- clarify - process is not electronic, only submission of form. Still work face to face with an advisor.

  • #6 - Mandatory Advising
    - Low quarterly GPA in addition to cum GPA would trigger. Quarter GPA:1.9 freshman,1.5 others
    - Change to students who withdrew from the UW in the prior two quarters.

Review Process

- Post to web
- Send e-mail to students, staff, faculty, advisors and ask for comments
- Incorporate comments in final report
- Have final recommendation that talks about funding with rough estimate for implementation
- Meet in 3 weeks?
