Welcome to the Levinson Emerging Scholars program! Below you’ll find key information and expectations for active Levinson Emerging Scholars. We’re excited to support you on your research journey!
- Engage Actively in Your Research Project: Continue your research as described in your application. If significant changes arise, notify the Office of Undergraduate Research to determine if you are still eligible to receive funding based on these changes.
- Maintain Eligibility and Enrollment: Remain registered full-time (at least 12 credits) and actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the University of Washington throughout the award period.
- Provide Updates and Acknowledge Support: When requested, share project updates with program administrators and funders. Acknowledge the Levinson Emerging Scholars Award in any related publications or conference presentations.
- Participate in Program Events: Take part in professional development opportunities offered by the Office of Undergraduate Research, including cohort meetings, campus outreach, and other events.
- Stay in Touch with the Office of Undergraduate Research: Maintain communication with the Office of Undergraduate Research team, responding to annual requests for updates on your scholarly and professional development.
- Present your research at the annual UW Undergraduate Research Symposium.
As a Levinson Emerging Scholar, it is essential to adhere to the budget proposal submitted in your application. This ensures that your research funding is used effectively and aligns with program guidelines. If you have any questions about your budget or purchasing, please contact undergradresearch@uw.edu for assistance.
- Supply and Material Orders: Supplies and materials listed in your budget must be purchased by a designated staff member in your lab or research group. Awardees are not eligible to purchase their supplies for reimbursement by the Office of Undergraduate Research.
- Supply and Materials Revisions: If there are any deviations from your initial budget, please submit a revised Budget Template and Budget Justification to Chelsea Navarro, Assistant Director, via undergradresearch@uw.edu. Please note that it is not possible to revise scholarship amounts.
Levinson Emerging Scholars are eligible for a Conference Travel Award of up to $1,500 to support the presentation of their work at a national conference. Here’s how it works:
Conference Travel Award Application Details:
- Submit an Undergraduate Research Conference Travel Award application.
- When applying, avoid including your faculty mentor on the application form; instead, list a program staff member or leave the section blank if required.
Award Utilization:
- The $1,500 CTA award may be used in full for a single conference or spread across multiple conferences until the full amount is utilized.
- We occasionally make exceptions for students to use travel award funds to attend conferences up to three months post-graduation. However, students still need to apply while enrolled as undergraduates (i.e. WRF and LEV students cannot apply for travel award funds after they have graduated).
If you receive funding from other scholarships, fellowships, or grants supporting your research, you may not be eligible to receive the full Levinson award. Please note that Levinson Emerging Scholars cannot concurrently receive the Mary Gates Research Scholarship during the award period (Fall – Spring).
