A Supportive Research Community
We know that research can feel competitive and intimidating. During Research Café, we strive to create an environment where students can share their experiences and support one another. We hope all who attend come with an open mind, curiosity to hear peoples’ stories, and the desire to build relationships.
Who should come?
Come learn more about research at UW by speaking with other students who are currently involved in research and staff members. You may even meet new friends to join you in your research journey!
Share your unique research experiences with your peers! If you’re willing, answer questions from students who are hoping to get involved with research and share what you’ve learned from your journey.
Not sure you want to give advice? No problem! Come meet other students involved in research and connect over your research experiences.
Come share your research, personal story, and help to foster a welcoming research community for the next generation of researchers!
What to expect?
When you arrive at the EXPD Suite, please sign in at the front desk. Our front desk staff will direct you to the event space where you will be greeted by an Office of Undergraduate Research staff member or Undergraduate Research Leader.
From there, you will be invited to sit at an open table and create a name tag. We also provide color coded stickers for you to put on your name tag to indicate what fields of research you’re interested or currently involved in. This should make it easier for you to find other people with similar interests to yours.
When your name tag is complete, we encourage you to meet people, share your experiences, and learn about theirs!
Students are welcome to come and go from the event freely. We hope you will stop by to chat no matter how long you’re able to stay!
Access Statement
The University of Washington is committed to providing access and accommodation in its services, programs, and activities. To be respectful of those with allergies and environmental sensitivities, we ask that you please refrain from wearing strong fragrances. To make a request connected to a disability or health condition contact the Office of Undergraduate Research at UndergradResearch@uw.edu, at least two weeks prior to the event.
Volunteer at Research Café
We are looking for undergraduates with experience in research to serve as volunteers during Research Café, who will be able to answer others’ questions, provide valuable insight from their own experiences in research, and participate in a great community-building opportunity.
