Seattle Seattle & Gallery Goers 2-17-16 Pivot outing
Hello Seattle Seattle and Gallery Goers,
We (Barbara Archbold & Mimi Wagar) have combined both groups for a special docent tour outing on Wed., Feb., 17th, at the newly opened, impressive PIVOT ART + CULTURE GALLERY, located in South Lake Union at 609 Westlake Ave., N., Seattle, 98109. The gallery is on the ground floor of the Paul Allen Institute, Brain Science Building.
In regard to having a group lunch after the gallery tour, that option is not possible. Due to a huge customer demands for food services in the South Lake Union, especially during the lunch hour. For this reason, having a “group lunch” for our group, is not financially feasible….room charge $750 etc.!
Please see the list of the restaurants below in the Lunch Section, to choose, if you wish to have lunch, by yourself or with your own small group.
We must add that we are very appreciative of the Pivot Art + Culture Gallery staff for their excellent service given to us, in preparation for our visit.
DEADLINE:
Both groups please sign-up for this docent guided gallery tour before or by Tuesday February 9th. Send your reservation only to Mimi Wagar: at wagarma@gmail.com 0r 206-546-8251. Mimi will send you a confirmation. Our capacity is limited to 25 persons. We always welcome your guests, but the priority has to be for our members first. Please feel free to check and see if guest spaces are available.
TIME TABLE AND OTHER INFO:
1) Please arrive before 10:45 am for our 11:00 am to about 12:00 noon docent tour. 2) Have a $5 (exact amount) admission fee ready, for us to collect and pay as one lump sum. 3) Totes and handbags are OK. 4) If you have a backpack along, use the locker. Then, give the key to the Reception Desk and claim later. 5) There are coat racks and hooks.
THE EXHIBITION:
We are very pleased and honored to have Ms. Sarah Margolis-Pineo, the Assistant Curator, as our docent, to guide and enrich us through this journey of the modern art masterpieces.
According to Gary Faigin’s a, notable art critic (December 2015 Seattle Times article) “It’s hard not to get a bit hyperbolic about “The Figure in Process,” the opening exhibition at Paul Allen’s new Pivot Art + Culture gallery…A concise survey of contemporary interpretations of the human figure, the show includes marquee names like Willem de Kooning, Alberto Giacometti and Roy Lichtenstein — heavy-hitters right out of the gate for a small, alternative art venue. Of course, your typical startup space would not have access to a Microsoft co-founder’s resources and spectacular art collection (represented here by four key works).
Sharing space with the modern masters are several very strong younger artists, including Berlin-based painter Jonas Burgert, whose epic, 30-foot-wide panorama “Stück Hirn Blind” (2015) is a true showstopper, delivered to Seattle with its paint barely dry. In-the-moment artists like Kehinde Wiley (whose retrospective comes to SAM in February) and Anish Kapoor (of the giant reflective egg in Chicago) fill out the roster. The exhibition covers a striking amount of ground with just 21 works.”

Tutta Bella makes delicious thin crusted pizza; it’s located at 2200 Westlake, a little further south toward downtown, but very walkable. It is in the complex where Whole Foods is located on the corner of Denny Way and Westlake.
Nordstrom Café located in the downtown Nordstrom store is also an option.
