Mentors and Tutors

Gala Photobooth 2017

Join Making Connections for an opportunity to change the life of a high school student. Offer guidance, support, and motivation to first-generation students who are exploring higher education and careers in the STEAM fields. Making Connections students are matched with either a college student or professional who shares common educational and/or career interests.

Mentoring Program

We aim to give our students the best mentoring experience possible. Our mentors are caring adults who support and encourage our mentees to pursue their aspirations during the college transition. We seek out mentors who are strong listeners and excited to share their college and work experiences while imparting standards and expectations of the college and/or professional environment. Mentors are expected to be a resource to their student and provide advice on how to network and gain contacts for professional opportunities.

To become a mentor you must…

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate program, or working professionally.
  • Complete the Making Connections application form.

Mentors are expected to…

  •  Support students as they take steps toward realizing their higher education and career goals.
  • Attend mentor/mentee Making Connections social events
  • Provide feedback to program staff
  • Create a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere
  • Have fun!
