(A competition jointly sponsored by the College and Tools for Transformation)
A new University Honors Program course will examine the radical changes in natural philosophy that emerged in 16th and 17th century Europe from the struggle to find order and certainty in the physical world. Given this genesis of the western scientific enterprise, the course considers how Newton's carefully proscribed, provisionally constructed clockwork universe became the "dispirited" reality of modernity. How did a way of thinking become the only way of thinking?
