(A competition jointly sponsored by the College and Tools for Transformation)
Political Science and Speech Communication and Communications will assemble a preliminary curriculum for an interdisciplinary political communication curriculum that will take students from introductory offerings to capstone research experiences. A new 300-level course in Media, Identity and Politics will explore how different spheres of mediated communication transmit images of people in society, providing resources for diverse individuals to manage their identities in public and private life. A new 400 level course, tentatively titled, "Political Deliberation and Mass Society," will offer students a chance to explore issues of public speech from philosophical, psychological, economic and legal perspectives. This course will also feature a unique data/research experience with students observing structured politcal deliberations among lower-division students.
