Sociology's Faculty Development Seminars

Department of Sociology

Professor Martina Morris will lead the Sociology Department's faculty development seminars. The purpose of the seminars will be to have faculty discuss curriculum issues in depth, plan for resulting change, and develop new courses that will become a part of the new curriculum. Each year of the seminars will focus on a different topic. The topics are research methodology and quantitative training; introductory courses; and the social sciences in the university's core curriculum. The final seminar in the series will include faculty members from several other social science departments.

The seminars will allow participating faculty to spend time discussing course innovations with their colleagues, developing new courses or revising existing courses, and collectively critiquing their courses as they develop. The seminar series will bring guests to campus to work with participants in the seminar and with others in the Department. The seminars will allow curriculum examination in the larger context of changing environments throughout higher education.
