Update from Dave Eaton, Interim Vice Provost for Research

Professor Dave Eaton

When I stepped into my role as Interim Vice Provost for Research I knew it wouldn’t be easy. We were in the midst of a budget crisis and many units on campus were focused on transition. However, I was honored to be asked and excited to be leading the Office of Research. Though we are in the midst of difficult budgetary times there are many accomplishments to celebrate. We received $1.4 billion in sponsored research funds, second in federal research funding for public universities nationwide. Funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA Stimulus) was $191 million (FY10), placing the UW near the top of all research institutions.

We are moving toward our vision for the future with our goal to emerge from the current economic crisis well-positioned and stronger than ever. Our primary goal is to provide excellent, cost-efficient service to the UW research community who is providing solutions to societies most pressing issues. We are dedicated to our mission to make the UW a great place to do research and committed to making improvements that will continue to make a quality education for our students.
