What to Wear, Your Audience, and Your Wellbeing
What to Wear
Wear what makes you feel confident! Presenters often choose to dress more formal than their everyday style to feel more confident and in charge, but we encourage you to wear whatever you feel best in. Be sure to wear shoes that you’re comfortable standing in for long periods of time, or to bring a comfy pair of shoes to change into after your presentation.
- Though not required, you are always welcome to wear a mask while presenting in any space. Please view the UW COVID-19 Policy for more information.
- For students seeking free, gently used, workplace attire, please check out the Husky Career Closet located within the Career and Internship Center in MGH 134.

Your Audience
This event is open to the public. While UW faculty, staff, and students do make up a large portion of the audience who come to listen to student presentations, you can also expect to see family and friends in attendance to support presenters. We will also have students and mentors attending from 13 non-UW higher education institutions across the state.
As you prepare for your presentation, remember that your audience may not have any background information about your field of research. Be sure to make your presentation accessible for the general public and reduce the use of undefined jargon where possible. You can access a recording of our poster and oral presentation how-to session where we walk through communicating your research on the Presenter Resources webpage.
Your Wellbeing
Presenting can cause a flurry of emotions and feelings, and that’s okay! Water coolers or water fountains will be within distance during the duration of the event. We encourage presenters, exhibitors, and performers to visit our Symposium Wellness Room, accessible from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in MGH 220, for a quick recharge. Or stop by MGH 224 for open seating throughout the entire day.
