FM Culture Fair is a Summer Event
by Karen Crowder
The next Summer Event will be entirely new and different, This year, a Culture Fair is being planned to recognize and celebrate the richness of the world we live and work in. The RAVE team, along with members of DREAM team, the RQT and the EIT are working to put on a very special event.
The celebration will take place on September 8 th from 1-4. We will be using the entire Ethnic Culture Center and will need lots of help to make this event the best it can be. We are looking for help in providing items for display, ethnic food to taste, entertainment, etc.
The following RAVE team members are taking the lead in different areas of interest for the Fair:
• Agnes Acholonu (acholonu@u.washington.edu) – Music and dance
• Ruchi Aggarwal (aggarwal@u.washington.edu) – Literature
• Libby Graham (egraham@u.washington.edu) – Food
• Mai Lin Chua (mailin@u.washington.edu) – Art
• Paul Jeganathan (paulej@u.washington.edu) – Religion
• Dick Simmons – (rsimmons@u.washington.edu) – Fact sheets on culture and countries
• Shelley Yen – (shelleyy@u.washington.edu) – Costumes, dress
If you have a special interest in any of these areas, please contact one of the people above. Or, you can contact me with questions or ideas. I’m at 6-2159 or (karensue@u.washington.edu). I’m also in charge of the entertainment piece of the day, and will welcome all ideas. We hope you will think of artifacts you can share – either from your own family, or from travels you’ve had. Think about wearing clothes that represent your culture, or a culture you’ve visited. With your support and help, we can make an exciting new event that celebrates our rich, diverse world!
